Depending on your role, you may develop communication, teamwork, problem-solving, organisation, time management, research, project work, digital collaboration and professional software skills. You’ll also learn how to work effectively with colleagues and supervisors based in another country and time zone.
Working remotely can help you become more independent, self-motivated, adaptable and well organised. By the end of your placement, you’ll have valuable experience to add to your CV, examples to discuss in future interviews and a clearer understanding of the career areas that interest you.

You will need a reliable internet connection and access to the technology required for online communication.
Most working hours are flexible, although you must be able to fit in with the host company’s Australian business hours for your weekly video call with your workplace supervisor.

You’ll leave with stronger digital-working skills, greater confidence and experience of international professional communication.
Join our Virtual Australia Placement Programme to gain international experience, build professional contacts and add an Australian host company to your CV without the cost of travelling overseas.
What’s a typical day?
You’ll begin your working day from home by checking messages, emails and tasks from your Australian host company. Your working pattern can be arranged for 2, 3, 4 or 5 days per week, with flexible hours to fit around your life at home.
Your daily schedule will vary depending on your role and the time difference between your location and Australia. You must be flexible enough to join the weekly video call with your supervisor during the host company’s Australian business hours, but your other working hours can usually be completed flexibly.
Every placement is different, so your responsibilities will depend on your sector and host company. You could be supporting marketing campaigns, carrying out research, creating digital content, completing finance or administration tasks, contributing to software or design projects, or helping with day-to-day business operations.
Before your placement begins, we’ll provide a detailed role description, pre-placement training and guidance on working remotely. You’ll also take part in a video interview with your host company and receive initial training from your workplace supervisor.
When your work is complete, you can continue with your studies, job or other commitments. A virtual placement gives you the flexibility to gain professional experience without relocating or putting the rest of your life on hold.

How much free time is there?
It’s really up to you! We can arrange your virtual placement to be on 2, 3, 4, or 5 days / week (Monday to Friday) so you can tell us how many days / week you want to work and also tell us how many hours / day you want to do the virtual placement.
That means you decide how much free time you have for studies, paid work, and other commitments.
How far in advance should I apply?
The earlier the better!
Virtual placements can book up many months in advance.
Most people join us 6 to 12 months before their start date. This allows enough time to arrange your host company and prepare you to start work.
Normally the minimum is at least 2-3 months before your preferred start date.
If you’re hoping to start quicker, please contact us and we’ll do our best to help.
What’s the booking process?
Complete our online booking form and pay the £200 Acceptance fee at the end of the form. The next working day we will email to confirm your place and send more information.
We’ll then begin arranging your tailored virtual placement and contact you to discuss your experience, career goals and preferred start date.
Once your host company is confirmed, we’ll guide you through the remaining preparations before you start work.
You’ll have plenty of 1-1 video calls / whatsapps with our staff in Brighton – it’s a nice friendly personalised service. You always have chance to ask your questions and we welcome parents to contact us so they feel part of the process too.
Are placements paid?
Most virtual placements are unpaid, as the focus is on gaining valuable professional experience, developing your skills and enhancing your CV.
Some host organisations may offer a small allowance or other benefits, but this cannot be guaranteed.
Can the placement form part of my degree?
Virtual placements may be suitable for a placement year, internship module or work-experience requirement, subject to your university’s approval.
We can provide the placement details and host-company agreement for you to share with your university.
Can you complete my university paperwork?
Yes. We’re happy to complete any placement documentation required by your university and liaise directly with your placement or employability team where necessary.
Will I need a visa?
No. You do not need a visa to do one of our Australia Virtual placements because you will not travel to Australia. You will complete the placement remotely.
