Everything you need to know

Is Australia Internship Adventure right for me?

If you want to gain useful career skills in areas like Marketing, Business, Administration, Communications, Education, Tourism, and Events while travelling and seeing a new country, this trip is perfect for you.

You’ll:

  • Get hands-on experience to talk about in future university or job applications
  • Develop key personal skills like teamwork, leadership, communication and planning
  • Safely step out of your comfort zone and grow in confidence

This all-inclusive group trip is specifically designed to give you as much support as possible. Our staff are always on hand to help and you’ll be part of a group of other 18–19 year olds throughout the trip; at work, in your accommodation and during free time in the evenings and weekends.

You don’t need previous experience to join. All you need is enthusiasm and a willingness to get involved.

Our Australia Internship Adventure runs on fixed dates, so all you need to do is pick the dates that fit your summer plans.

What will I do on this trip?

In Australia, you’ll get involved in practical work with a local business in or around Sydney. You can choose from roles in areas such as:

  • Business Administration
  • Education
  • Event Management
  • Marketing & Communications
  • Non-profits & Community organisations
  • Tourism

Other roles may be possible and are confirmed on a case-by-case basis.

You’ll be assigned a workplace supervisor who will welcome you on your first day, introduce you to the team and explain your tasks. They’ll be your main point of contact at your placement, alongside our local staff in Sydney.

The exact tasks you complete will depend on the host organisation’s needs at the time of your trip, but there will always be plenty of useful and interesting things for you to do. You’ll see how an Australian organisation operates and have the chance to contribute to real projects.

What experience and skills will I gain from this internship?

On this trip, you’ll have the opportunity to travel to a different country, live more independently and meet like-minded students from around the world.

During your free time, we organise some activities and recommend others to help you make the most of your time abroad. You can:

  • Take a day trip to the Blue Mountains
  • Visit iconic spots like Bondi Beach and Sydney Harbour
  • Join group social evenings and local cultural activities

You’ll also have free time to explore Sydney with your new friends, shop, relax on the beach or just soak up the city.

Where in Australia will I be?

All our Australia Internship Adventure programmes are based in Sydney.

  • You’ll live in homestay accommodation with a friendly local family.
  • Your internship will be with a local business or organisation in Sydney. Some host companies have more than one intern at the same time.

You’ll get to know different areas of the city and gain a real insight into Australian life and culture.

What are the aims and impact of this trip?

The aim of this project is for you to develop work-based skills and knowledge while doing something useful for your host organisation.

Over the course of your internship, you may be able to see a project through from start to finish, giving you a clear sense of achievement. You’ll leave knowing that you’ve added something tangible to the organisation where you worked – and with experiences you can talk about for years to come.

Join Australia Internship Adventure and use your summer to learn, make contacts and travel.

What’s a typical day?

Once you’ve enjoyed breakfast at your accommodation, you’ll travel to your host company. You might be able to walk there, or take a bus or tram. On your first day, our staff will accompany you to show you the way.

A typical day on this project runs from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.

The specific activities you’ll get involved in will vary according to the placement you’ve chosen. You may end up joining in on client meetings, discussing the progress on a current project. Or you’ll be busy with research that will form the basis of a product development plan.

Whatever the activity, you’ll be undertaking work that contributes towards the goals of the business.

At the end of the day, it’s time to relax. Have food at your accommodation, go for a walk along the Sydney harbour, making friends with fellow interns. Take time to explore the city, absorbing the sights and sounds of your new home.
