Lottie is studying Sports Psychology at Loughborough University, and joined us for an Events placement in the Sports industry in Australia, in 2024-25.

 

Before the trip

What’s your background (which uni / course)?

Loughborough University – sports psychology.

Why did you choose to do an Events placement in Australia placement as part of your degree?

I wanted to experience living and working abroad and also gain an experience unlike other students.

How did you first discover us?

From my university.

Were you finding it hard to find a placement?

There weren’t many in the UK that I felt I would have enjoyed.

Did you think this was unachievable on your own?

It would have been a lot harder / time-consuming if I didn’t have your support.

What made you choose Placement Year International over other services?

Knowing that other students from Loughborough had / are using Placement Year International and have had successful trips.

How easy was the process from interview to getting to your placement with our help?

The support has been amazing, helping with interviews to travel plans made the process stress free!

On placement

What are you doing for your placement?

Working with the Australian National Cycling team.

What is your role?

Events placement student.

What skills or knowledge have you gained so far during your placement?

Confidently using different databases such as Raceroster / Entryboss, having exposure to sponsorship and marketing needed for championships as well as conducting surveys on past events.

Did you find it difficult adapting to a new working environment?

No, I love it!

Have you received good support & advice from your work colleagues at the host company?

Yes, Jeff [placement supervisor] has been amazing and has made me feel at home!

How has your placement helped you develop as a person so far?

Increased confidence.

Since joining Placement Year International, what have we done well?

Checking in on me, pre-calls with your Brighton office and preparation for interviews.

What do you think we can improve?

Potentially more contact from your Australia team when helping sorting the second placement [this has now been increased].

If you were to recommend us to friends, what would you say?

The support you receive is incredible, making a stressful / scary process run smoothly. The working opportunities are incredible and you meet lots of like-minded people!
