Once we confirm your host company, we’ll arrange accommodation nearby so you don’t have to worry about finding it yourself.
Our staff are always on hand in Australia and our friendly team in Brighton will help you prepare for the trip.
We’ll connect you with other people on our Australia programme at the same time as you so you can easily meet others after arriving.
You can tell us how many days / week you want the placement. Evenings and weekends are free.

Our Short-Term Placement Programme in Australia can start any Monday of the year (except in December), so simply choose a date that fits into your gap year / summer holiday / year out and we’ll do the rest.
What will I do on this trip?
In Australia, you’ll get involved in practical work with a local business in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane or Adelaide. You can choose from roles in areas such as:
- Accounting & Finance
- Business Development
- Communications
- Event Management
- Marketing
- Human Resources
- Hospitality & Tourism
- Information Technology
- Public Relations
- Sales
- Sports
- And more…
Other roles may be possible and are confirmed on a case-by-case basis.
You’ll be assigned a workplace supervisor who will welcome you on your first day, introduce you to the team and explain your tasks. They’ll be your main point of contact at your placement, and will provide training and feedback throughout your placement.
The exact tasks you complete will depend on the host organisation’s needs at the time of your trip, but there will always be plenty of useful and interesting things for you to do. You’ll see how an Australian organisation operates and have the chance to contribute to real projects.
What experience and skills will I gain from this placement?
You will gain practical work experience in a real business.
Most people choose a placement role & host company in an industry which they want to work in in the future. This means the training and work experience you gain in Australia is directly transferrable in your home country afterwards. This helps get you into interviews for jobs or university courses and makes you stand out in the jobs market.
By living and working in another country you also gain more independence, confidence, develop communication skills, gain understanding of another culture, make contacts for the future and make international friends.
Where in Australia will I be?
Our colleagues on the ground in Australia are based in Sydney and our placements are in;
- Sydney
- Melbourne
- Brisbane
- Adelaide
- Gold Coast
You can tell us if you have a preference for the location of your placement BUT we’ll always ask you to remain flexible because we strongly believe that finding you the perfect placement is more important than its location. However, it will be in one of the above cities.
What are the aims and impact of this trip?
The aim of this project is for you to develop work-based skills and knowledge while doing something useful for your host organisation.
Over the course of your placement, you may be able to see a project through from start to finish, giving you a clear sense of achievement. You’ll leave knowing that you’ve added something tangible to the organisation where you worked – and with experiences you can talk about for years to come.
Join our Short-Term Placement Programme in Australia and use your time to learn, make contacts and travel.
What’s a typical day?
Once you’ve enjoyed breakfast at your accommodation, you’ll travel to your host company. You might be able to walk there, or take a bus or tram. Your host family will be happy to give you advice.
A typical day runs from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.
The specific activities you’ll get involved in will vary according to the type of placement you’ve chosen. You may join client meetings to discuss the progress on a current project. Or you’ll be busy with research that will form the basis of a product development plan.
We will give you more information about your precise role & training before you fly to Australia.
At the end of the day, it’s time to relax. Have food at your accommodation, explore your city, meet other people on our programme in Australia, plan your weekend. Enjoy absorbing the sights and sounds of your new home!

Map & Location
Our Short-Term Placements in Australia are available in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide – all major cities with strong economies and lots to do after work and at weekends.
Who can join
Anyone between 18 and 30 years old wanting a structured work placement, with flexible start dates and durations, and with accommodation & food included.
What's the difference between this trip and the Australia Internship Adventure Group trip
The Australia Internship Adventure Group Trip trip is specifically for 18-19 year olds who want to do a group trip with other people their age, for 4 or 6 weeks, on fixed dates, and with more staff support.
Our Short-term Australia placements are for anyone from 18 to 30 years old (gap year students, university undergraduates or post graduates) who want to do a placement for 4, 6, 8, 10 or 12 weeks, who want to choose their own start date and are not bothered about being in a group setting. You will still meet other people on our programme, and there’s a slightly broader range of placements available (because some host companies prefer the slightly longer durations).
At a glance:

How long is the trip
Choose from durations of 4, 6, 8, 10 or 12 weeks with the option to add additional weeks if you want.
These durations are short enough to fit into a holiday, gap year or time out of work, but long enough to learn, gain meaningful work experience and have chance to make a contribution to your host company.
What staff support is provided
Our UK head office, based in Brighton, will be in touch with you by email, whatsapp and Teams calls before the trip to ensure you are fully prepared and ready.
In Australia, one person at your host company will be assigned as your day-to-day supervisor – they will be in charge of your training and supervision at the host company.

How much free time is there?
The internship normally starts around 9am and finishes around 4-5pm, Monday to Friday. Evenings are free after you’ve finished dinner at the accommodation.
Is anything organised in the evenings and weekends?
We arrange 1 informal social get together each month in Sydney. Our colleagues in Australia will message you to confirm date, time and place to meet.
Otherwise evenings and weekends are your free time to explore, meet up with others on our programme or socialise with people from your placement or accommodation.
When do I have to book?
Many people book 6 – 12 months in advance to be sure of securing a place and to help their planning and budgeting.
The latest is normally 3 months before the trip starts. This is to allow enough time to arrange flights, visas, host company and so on.
What’s the booking process?
Complete our online booking form and pay the £200 Acceptance fee at the end of the form. The next working day we will email to confirm your place and send more information.
